Small Changes – Big Impact

Eco Domus is about small changes that everyone can make in their homes. It doesn’t matter whether you are building and want to familiarize yourself with options for a future-oriented eco-home and sustainable materials, that create a good indoor climate or whether you want to get ideas and guidance on how to live more eco-friendly and have an increased awareness. Every step – no matter the size – is valuable and brings change.

This aspiration may start small from one room in one’s home, with intentions to improve, one extends the reach to friends and colleagues. Maybe with other parents at children’s institutions (kindergarten and school) initiate an indoor climate check and improve the conditions for kids, other parents and institutions follow the example and adapt this. With time, these aspirations may spread throughout the country in this or another form of betterment, leaving the desire to do more for a change. Our lives become more fulfilling and meaningful when we make conscious choices that are not only good for us, but bear a collective responsibility. Together we create a new mind-set driven by selflessness.

Be influential in our ways of life. Every person  possesses an individual power to influence the course of development of our societies. Our everyday choices are directly linked to economic functionality: demand and production. The moment we find the time to make better choices is the moment we stop being a passive element of a homogeneous mechanism.

CO2 pollution is a well-known issue. Cement is the source of about 8% of the world’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, however as consumers we are still offered cement based materials as a first choice while carbon-neutral and sustainable building materials are available. 

By making conscious buying choices and rethinking consumption habits people can influence what is being produced and how. Sustainable consumption and production should be on everybody’s mind as it affects many areas of our lives in ways products are manufactured and over-produced, managed and packaged, wasted and disposed of. 

Having the privilege of living in places with easy access to goods and in progressive and technologically developed countries comes with a responsibility and a need for deeper understanding of possible consequences for the entire world. Throughout history we have witnessed many examples of quick “solutions”, that even resulted in exploitation and profiteering, without any regard for our and our planet’s well being.

It is essential to have a place one can call home, a place where serenity and harmony exists in solitude and in family time, the place you all enjoy being at and having confidence the components that make up your home are of natural origin, bringing you closer to nature away from harmful pollutants. Being in sync with your home creates an internal feeling of tranquility and balance. When all elements in your home are contributing and complementing one another the indoor climate receives an instant upgrade. With an improved air quality you find yourself being a part of nature, even though your place might be at the heart of a busy town. We are eager to advise on the choices for your next building or renovation project. At Eco Domus we are inspired by the Building Biology principles and do our best to promote it further and implement it in our work process:

  • Finding a way for filtration, neutralization or reduction of toxic airborne substances including molds and bacteria, and utilization of building materials, which do not emit toxic vapors.
  • Using hygroscopic materials, which allow the diffusion of moisture and natural self-regulation of indoor air humidity.
  • Minimizing exposure to EMF (electrosmog) and preserving natural electric and magnetic fields.
  • Support building and renovating activities and production of materials which do not have adverse side-effects of any kind and which promote health and social well-being and as much as possible using building materials that do not contribute to environmental problems
  • Create a living environment that meets human needs and protects the environment while strengthening regional and local supply networks as well as self-sufficiency.
  • Using energy efficient, preferably radiant heat, heating systems, which are designed not to pollute the indoor air.

We give special attention to the interior design and its attributes, including the production of eco-friendly furniture, doors and kitchens, where visual appeal and modern look is an essential part of the product.
